Frequently Asked Questions

Is profile-plasty really indispensable?
It is not indispensable, except that when a chin is too weak or small we cannot achieve the desired harmony with the nose tip by simply reshaping the nose. As a rule, chin augmentation is a very quick procedure and is performed at the same time as the procedure on the nose, since the patient is already anesthetised. In short, with little we can obtain the aesthetic improvement that makes all the difference.

How is chin surgery performed?
It is performed by making a small incision in the mucous membrane of the lower lip, through which the periosteum is detached from the bone so as to create a pocket which is then filled, not with a traditional implant, but rather with a mesh as is normally used during hernia repair surgery, as this material will then be infiltrated and filled with the scar tissue that forms around it.

Does it leave any scars?
No, because the incision for mentoplasty is made internally, in the mucosa of the lower lip, and the stitches used are self-absorbing.

Is there a risk of the chin implant being displaced?
Silicone implants may move, either of their own accord or due to a trauma, and this is why we use mesh instead. It is easier to introduce and shape, and it will be incorporated in the scar tissue that forms, ruling out the risk of displacements.

To what extent can a chin be augmented?
Chin augmentation is defined based on photos and a study of a person’s facial appearance. The end in view is always the same: to obtain a harmonious, well-balanced profile.
