The Chin
A person’s profile is studied to search for harmony between the shape of the chin and the nose.

The material used to correct the chin aims at augmenting the volume, and consists particularly of a Mersilene mesh, used to reconstruct the wall of the abdomen in the treatment of hernias and is therefore compatible with the tissues. To insert this mesh, an incision has to be done at the lower lip mucus in order to create a subperiosteal pocket of the desired dimensions, in which the Mersilene mesh is placed. Subsequently, cicatricial tissue will pervade and incorporate the mesh which becomes an integral part of all the surrounding tissue. This is important since it makes the chin structure stable, otherwise the silicon prosthesis which lies on a curved surface may move about, or else, due to compression, determine an atrophy of the jaw bone.

Chin asymmetries can also be corrected by placing more material in the empty parts. Instead, when the chin is a bit too pronounced, its size can be reduced by removing the excess fibroadipose connections that are found between the muscles and the periosteum of the jaw, through a surgical procedure which is scarcely invasive.

If instead the problem of a protruding chin is caused by an excess of bone tissue, this may be remodeled and reduced through a cutaneous incision under the chin.

However, when this is associated to a bad occlusion or when dysmorphism is great, it is recommendable to perform a maxillofacial procedure, which is much more complex but resolves both occlusal and aesthetic problems. Small remodeling works on the chin can be done through the injecting of RADIESSE fillers.
